What We Do

Our Double Glazing Services in Birmingham

Common Problems

What Types of Window and Door Problems Do We Fix?

These are the problems Birmingham homeowners call us about most. Some need new windows or doors; many only need the right repair.

Misted or foggy double glazing

When the glass looks cloudy and wiping does nothing, the seal around the sealed unit has failed and damp air has got between the panes. The unit has also lost the insulating gas it was filled with. Sealed units commonly last 10 to 20 years, so a lot of Birmingham glazing from the 1990s and 2000s is now at that point. If the frame is sound, we replace just the glass.

Misted Glass & Window Repairs in Birmingham

Draughts and cold rooms

Old windows and doors with worn seals or single glazing let heat pour out. Since June 2022, Part L of the Building Regulations requires replacement windows in England to reach a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better. The Energy Saving Trust estimates that replacing single glazing with A-rated double glazing saves a semi-detached home around £85 a year.

uPVC Windows in Birmingham

Doors and windows that will not lock

A door you have to lift to lock, or a window handle that spins, is a security risk. Crime Survey for England and Wales data shows doors are the most common way burglars get into homes. We fix dropped doors, replace failed gearboxes and fit anti-snap cylinders, or replace the door entirely where it is past saving.

Composite Doors in Birmingham

Condensation and mould around frames

Water running down the inside of windows each morning usually points to poor ventilation as much as poor glazing. The 2022 update to Part F means replacement windows generally need trickle vents where the old ones had them, and ventilation must not be made worse. We fit vents where needed and use warm edge spacers that reduce cold spots around the glass.

uPVC Windows in Birmingham

Traffic and aircraft noise

Homes on the Hagley Road, the A38 or under the Birmingham Airport flight path can be noisy. A standard double glazed unit typically reduces sound by around 30dB, while acoustic laminated units can reach the high 30s or more. Because every 10dB drop sounds roughly half as loud to the human ear, the difference is noticeable in bedrooms.

uPVC Windows in Birmingham

Cracked or broken glass

Broken glass needs replacing with the right type for its position. Building Regulations require safety glass in critical locations, such as glazing in doors and side panels below 1500mm from the floor and in windows below 800mm. We measure, order and fit replacement units with toughened or laminated glass wherever it is needed.

Conservatories that are too hot or too cold

Many conservatories built in the 1990s have polycarbonate roofs that bake in summer and freeze in winter. Replacing the roof with solar control glass or a solid insulated roof can make the room usable all year. Conservatories under 30 square metres that are separated from the house are generally exempt from Building Regulations, which keeps upgrades simple.

What Types of Double Glazing Services Do We Offer?

Everything below is surveyed, supplied and fitted by Eco Glaze, with a fixed written quote first.

A-rated replacement windows

We fit uPVC, aluminium and sash windows made to measure for every type of Birmingham home, from Victorian terraces to 1930s semis and modern flats. Casement, tilt and turn, flush, bay and sliding sash styles are all available in white, colours and woodgrain finishes. Every window uses A-rated glass with warm edge spacers and argon fill. The Energy Saving Trust estimates that switching a semi-detached home from single to A-rated double glazing cuts around 290kg of CO2 a year, as well as saving money on heating.

Front and back doors

A new front door changes the look of a house overnight. We fit solid-core composite doors and steel reinforced uPVC doors in dozens of colours and styles, from Victorian panels with stained glass effect inserts to flush contemporary designs. Every door has a multi-point lock and an anti-snap cylinder. We can supply doorsets tested to PAS 24, the security standard that Building Regulations require for doors on new homes.

Bifold, French and patio doors

Garden doors bring light in and let you step straight outside. Choose bifold doors that fold an entire wall away, sliding patio doors with large uninterrupted panes, or classic French doors. Under Part L, replacement doors that are more than 60% glazed must reach a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or a Doorset Energy Rating of band C, and everything we fit meets that standard with toughened safety glass throughout.

Conservatories and replacement roofs

We design and build lean-to, Victorian, Edwardian, P-shape and orangery style conservatories, handling groundwork, brick base, frames, roof and finishing as one project. For older conservatories we replace polycarbonate roofs with solid insulated or solar control glass roofs. Many rear conservatories fall within permitted development, which allows single storey rear additions of up to 3 metres on attached homes and 4 metres on detached ones, subject to the rules.

Porches

A porch adds storage for coats and shoes, a safe place for parcels and a buffer against cold air every time the front door opens. We build porches with brick bases matched to your house, uPVC frames and your choice of composite or uPVC door. A porch is usually permitted development if it is no more than 3 square metres in floor area, no higher than 3 metres, and at least 2 metres from a boundary next to a road.

Repairs and replacement glass

Not every problem needs new windows. We replace misted sealed units, broken glass, hinges, handles, gearboxes, locks and worn seals on most makes of uPVC and aluminium windows and doors. Because uPVC frames commonly last 20 to 35 years but sealed units often fail after 10 to 20, a repair can add years of life to frames that are still sound, at a fraction of the cost of replacement.

Why Choose Us

Why Birmingham Homeowners Choose Eco Glaze for Double Glazing

Open 70 Hours a Week, Including Sundays

Eco Glaze is open Monday to Sunday from 9am to 7pm. That is 70 hours every week when you can call, ask a question or book a free home survey, including weekday evenings and both days of the weekend. Many glazing companies only survey on weekdays, which means taking time off work just to get a price. We would rather fit around your life, so you can see samples in your own home, in daylight, at a time that suits you.

Every Job Built to the 2022 Energy Rules

Part L of the Building Regulations changed in June 2022, tightening the limit for replacement windows in England to a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K. We quote A-rated glass as standard so your windows clear that bar comfortably, and every installation is registered so you receive a compliance certificate. The Energy Saving Trust estimates the switch from single to A-rated double glazing saves a typical semi around £85 and 290kg of CO2 each year.

A Hagley Road Team That Knows Birmingham Homes

We are based at Radclyffe House, 66-68 Hagley Road, about a mile from the city centre. Birmingham's housing is varied and some of it is protected: Edgbaston's conservation area has had an Article 4 direction since 1975, Moor Pool in Harborne since 2006, and Moseley has its own. We check your address for these controls at survey, before you pay a deposit, so you never order windows or doors you are not allowed to fit.

FAQ

Double Glazing in Birmingham: Your Questions Answered

How much does double glazing cost in Birmingham?

It depends on the number, size and style of windows. National price guides typically put a fitted uPVC casement window at roughly £400 to £1,200, and the Energy Saving Trust estimates around £4,800 for a full set of A-rated windows on a semi-detached house. We give a fixed written quote after a free survey.

Are you really open at weekends?

Yes. Eco Glaze is open every day, Monday to Sunday, from 9am to 7pm. You can call us or book a home survey on a Saturday or Sunday.

Will I get a FENSA or Building Regulations certificate?

Yes. Replacement windows and doors must comply with Building Regulations, and every installation we complete is registered so a compliance certificate is issued for your records and for when you sell your home.

How long does it take to fit new windows?

Most three-bedroom houses are fitted in one to two days. We remove and replace one window at a time, so your home is never left open.

Do I need planning permission for new windows or doors?

Usually not for like-for-like replacements on a house. Flats, listed buildings and homes in conservation areas with Article 4 directions, such as parts of Edgbaston, Moseley and the Moor Pool estate in Harborne, can need permission. We check your address at survey.

Can you fix misted double glazing without replacing the window?

Yes. If the frame is in good condition we replace just the sealed glass unit, which costs far less than a new window.

Which areas do you cover?

We cover Birmingham and the surrounding area, including Edgbaston, Harborne, Moseley, Kings Heath, Selly Oak, Bearwood, Hall Green, Erdington, Sutton Coldfield and Solihull.

Do you charge for quotes?

No. Surveys and quotes are free and there is no obligation to go ahead.
